On track of the elements

How a medicine is made or what the composition of individual substances is, you can find out all this and much more in a chemistry degree course. At Leibniz University Hannover, research focuses on materials chemistry and natural products' chemistry/technology. Laboratory work on experiments is an essential part of the subject of chemistry.

The Bachelor's degree programme in Chemistry results in a professional qualification that enables entry into working life; alternatively, a Master's degree programme can be followed.

In the first semesters of the Bachelor's programme, the theoretical and practical basics in general, analytical, inorganic, organic, physical and technical chemistry are taught. Especially in the first two semesters, training in the subsidiary subjects computational methods of chemistry and experimental physics takes up a large amount of space. In the higher semesters, further subsidiary subjects such as toxicology and law for chemists are offered. In addition, students can set their own priorities in an elective area (e.g. biochemistry, food chemistry, theoretical chemistry or protein chemistry).

Please note: This programme requires German language proficiency.

This degree course's language of instruction is German. Full details of the degree course are available only in German.

Formalities and regulations

The regulations concerning the course of a degree programme and examinations are described and legally binding in the examination regulations (PO). The PO regulates the examination requirements and procedure. It specifies the modules as well as the number and type of examinations, the registration and examination periods and the rules for cancelling examinations.
The admission regulations define admission requirements in detail. Both are legally binding documents, only published in German.
