Who is the best person to contact?
It is advisable to contact your direct contacts - module coordinators or the institute - first. The other contact levels should only be approached secondarily.
Please avoid contacting different departments at the same time.
Module Coordinators
The module coordinators can provide immediate assistance with questions or problems relating to an individual study module and its courses or examinations.
Please refer to the module handbook for your degree programme to find out who the module coordinator is.
Institutes
For questions that go beyond a course or module, you should contact the institute that offers the degree programme, module or course. Either the lecturer of your course will help you or, in the case of organisational questions, the respective secretary's office. Sometimes it can also be helpful to contact the head of the institute or the managing director if you have higher-level questions or problems.
Study Programme Coordination
Sometimes a degree programme is offered jointly by several institutes. If you are unable to address your request in more detail or are unsure about the organisation of your studies, please contact your degree programme coordinator: Overview of degree programme coordination
Office of the Dean of Studies
The Office of the Dean of Studies will help you with all questions relating to your studies that cannot be resolved at module, institute or coordination level. You can also contact the Office of the Dean of Studies if you have differences of opinion with individual teaching staff, problems with examinations or individual questions about the organisation of your studies.
Higher-level study counselling, for example on part-time study, maternity, disabilities, etc., is also available from the staff of the Dean of Studies Office: Contact details Dean of Studies Office
Faculty Management
The faculty management is divided into three areas of responsibility, which you can contact if you have serious problems or complex questions, or which will provide you with information if the contact persons mentioned so far have been unable to help you:
The Head of the Dean of Studies Office is responsible for all matters relating to your studies and is usually your first port of call. You can also contact the Head of the Dean's Office or the Faculty Executive Board if you have more general questions. All enquiries will be treated in strict confidence on request.
University Level
At central university level, there are various organisations that can help you with potential problems. Issues such as balancing your studies and childcare, financial or legal questions require independent help, which you can obtain from the Central Student Advisory Service or the University Office for Diversity of Opportunities, among others. The psychological-therapeutic counselling service for students can help you with difficulties during your studies or exam anxiety. Your enquiries will of course be treated confidentially. Of particular importance is the offer of the ombudsperson for good teaching, who can be contacted - also anonymously - with all individual questions. The ombudsperson will try to develop solution strategies together with you and can act as an intermediary to other people and institutions.
University Administration
Only in exceptional cases and preferably in consultation with the ombudsperson should the University administration be contacted. Only if all the above-mentioned offices have been unable to help you should you contact the Executive Board of Leibniz University Hannover. Please also check beforehand whether the departments or units mentioned are better placed to help you.
