Doctoral studies
Classic individual doctorate, mostly in a third-party funded research project, or structured doctoral programmes, in graduate schools / graduate colleges?
The service facility GRANAT – the Graduate School of the Faculty of Natural Sciences – provides advice and information on doctoral opportunities at our faculty.
Promotion of young researchers and groups
Our faculty would like to give more visibility to all junior researchers who conduct independent research, have their own third-party funding and their own research profile: Junior research groups
We would like to provide the best possible support for young talents who are setting out on their own in research projects and in all aspects of research funding and knowledge and technology transfer.
Habilitation – Authorisation to teach
In German-speaking countries, the path to a professorship traditionally leads via the highest academic qualification: the habilitation. It serves as proof of outstanding competence in independent scientific research and qualified independent teaching.
Authorisation to teach (Venia Legendi):
With the habilitation – for a scientific subject or field represented in the Faculty of Natural Sciences – the habilitated person is granted the authority to teach independently at Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Universität Hannover.
An established alternative to the habilitation is the acquisition and management of a junior research group. Junior professorships offer excellent researchers an attractive perspective with early independence in research and teaching:
Tenure-track professorships "skip" the habilitation. These temporary professorships can be established permanently through evaluation.
Fast Track to Tenure: Here, too, the habilitation is waived. A prerequisite for this promotion of excellent young academics at Leibniz Universität Hannover is a special funding line.
