‘Kartoffelrosen’ Team from the Institute of Plant Genetics Reaches the Finish Line for Leibniz University

The fastest institutions in Lower Saxony compete on a 6,025 metres running course around the Maschsee lake

Just in time for Global Running Day, seven runners from the Molecular Plant Breeding department took part in the 22nd Lower Saxony Behördenmarathon (a marathon initiative of all public authorities and institutions) on 5 June 2024. In line with the motto ‘Running makes you happy’, each team member was allowed to run six kilometres around the Maschsee lake in the relay race. With a total time of 3:40:21, the ‘Kartoffelrosen’ team finished 148th out of 276 participating relay teams, placing well in the middle of the field. All the department's starters ran the six kilometres in well under 35 minutes, even though one participant had only completed a marathon three days previously.

The Dean Prof Dr Stefanie Heiden was very pleased that the institute provided a team for the Behördenmarathon. The Faculty of Natural Sciences therefore sponsored the T-shirts.
The ‘Kartoffelrosen’ team would like to thank the faculty for the sponsorship, the many helping hands and the public for their fantastic support.
