The Faculty of Natural Sciences sadly announces the loss of Prof. Dr. Ernst-Wilhelm Schenk.
Ernst-Wilhelm Schenk worked as a university professor at the Institute of Horticultural Economics until his retirement in 2002. With his main areas of work in accounting and management in the agricultural sector, he is considered a pioneer of digitalisation and corporate management in horticulture and agriculture.
He studied horticulture in Hanover from 1958 to 1961 and also completed his doctorate and habilitation here. From 1962 to 1972, he was the scientific director of the Working Group for Business Management Consulting in Horticulture, now the Centre for Business Management in Horticulture (ZBG). From 1975 to 1976, he took on a deputy position at the Chair of Agricultural Economics at the University of Göttingen and from 1976 to 1979 was head of the Department of Agricultural Economics at the University of Nairobi. From 1979, he worked as a university professor at the then Institute of Horticultural Economics at the University of Hanover.
With his passing, the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Universität Hannover loses a highly esteemed, dedicated researcher and academic teacher. We will honour his memory and always remember his work with gratitude. Our condolences are with his family.
