Award for best poster
At the annual conference of the German Society for Horticultural Science (DGG) and the German Association of Graduate Engineers in Horticulture and Landscape Architecture (BHGL), held in Braunschweig from 28 February to 1 March, Master's student Manh Hung Doan won first prize in the poster competition:
On his poster he presented the results of his Master's thesis in the International Horticulture programme, which he completed at the Institute of Horticultural Production Systems under the supervision of Prof. Dr Traud Winkelmann and Philipp Rüter and in cooperation with Prof. Dr Thomas Debener from the Institute of Plant Genetics. He used the soil bacterium Rhizobium rhizogenes, which inserts part of its genetic material into plant cells, to create new apple varieties. The next step will be to test them for drought stress tolerance and resistance to soil diseases as part of the EU's RootsPlus project.
The entire research group in the Woody Plant and Propagation Physiology section is delighted with the winner and would like to congratulate him.
